Angela's research

Speech and swallowing are two critical everyday life skills. Speech disorders may affect communication, literacy, educational attainment and a child’s ability to participate in, and contribute to, society. Swallowing disorders may impair nutritional intake and growth and may lead to life-threatening disorders such as aspiration pneumonia.
Up to 70% of children with a severe neurological impairment will have a speech or swallowing disorder. Both disorders result in life-long increased demands on health care services and are of great cost to the child, their family and to the wider community.
